Dennis Brenden, of Watertown, was elected as the 2018-2019 Department Commander of The American Legion Department of South Dakota during the closing moments of the 100th Annual Department Convention in Spearfish, SD on June 10, 2018. Brenden was nominated by Paul Evenson of Garretson, and his nomination was seconded by Larry Price of Redfield.

Denny Brenden graduated from High School in Hayti, SD, in 1968. Following graduation, at the age of 18, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served one year in Vietnam as a rifleman.

Denny is a 48- year continuous member of The American Legion and is currently a member of Codington County American Legion Post #17 in Watertown, SD. Denny is a life member of The American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, Vietnam Veterans of America and the Marine Corps League. He is also a member of the 40&8. Denny has been married to his wife Roxy for 46 years and they have three grown children, 16 grandchildren with 9 boys and 7 girls. Denny and Roxy reside in Watertown, SD, and are members of the Hosanna Lutheran Church in Watertown.
