The painting represents one of our National Cemeteries. The grandpa, a Vietnam Veteran, has brought his grandson along with him to pay their respects and to honor those who have given their lives for our country. Small children and animals are pure of heart, and because of this, and can see the ghost images of our men and women soldiers who have sacrificed their lives in Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam and earlier wars. In the flag is also a hidden image of a horseman, which some servicemen said reminded them of the 1st Cavalry (This image was not intentional). There are also two soldiers in the background on the left dressed in desert camouflage.  Lane Kendrick is a well known artist from Oklahoma and was one of the artist in residence at Custer State Park this summer.  She has gracefully allowed the South Dakota American Legion permission to use this print as a fund raiser.
